The former Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Ketu South Constituency, Wilfred Lotsutsey Kordzo Akorttia a.k.a. Paa Willie was laid to rest on Saturday August 22, 2020 at Agavedzi with hundreds of party members in attendance.
A tribute from the Constituency Executives, read by the Constituency Secretary, Desmond Kwaku Tsewu described his quality leadership style as “superb”, under whose watch the constituency gained the accolade as “The World Bank” of the party.
He said the superb administration of the NDC party in the then Ketu Constituency which resulted in massive and heavy votes for the party during the 1996 elections earned the constituency the name, “The World Bank” under the leadership of Paa Willie.
According to him, “for the eight years, he held the constituency chairmanship, with the solid assistance of his dependable executives.
His administration won the constituency parliamentary seat twice consecutively for the late Charles Kofi Agbenaza of Adafienu on NDC ticket”.
Mr. Tsewu went to say, their generation met Hon William Akorttia as the Chairman of the NDC Ketu South Constituency Council of Elders, a position he held from 2009 to 2014 with distinction to the admiration of the rank and file of the party in the Constituency.
“Mr. Akorttia was always there for us during any political turbulence, be it internal wranglings, frictions or disagreements which are typical of politics”, the executives noted.
The NDC, led by The MP for the area, Fifi Kwetey, The PC, Abla Dzifa Gomashie and others stressed the point that, Paa Willie’s “political legacy is carved in the historical stones of Ketu South”.
Spanning from the inception of the contemporary democracy under the Fourth Republic, Paa Willie metamorphosed from the basic unit of the party which is the branch level to become the second Constituency Chairman of the NDC in Ketu South from 1996 to 2001.
Prior to that, he served as the first Constituency Vice Chairman from 1992 to 1995 under the Chairmanship of the late Hon Ayi Henyo.
In 1992, he served as the Branch Chairman for Agavedzi-Dziehe Branch.
In 1989, during the PNDC regime, Paa Willie was elected unopposed as the first Assembly Member for the Agavedzi Electoral Area to the then Ketu District Assembly, now Ketu South Municipal Assembly. There, he served as;
- Chairman of Education Sub-Committee of the Assembly
- Executive Committee Member of the Assembly
iii. Chairman, Somey – Fugo Area Council.
In the third Assembly covering 1999 to 2002, Paa Willie was a Government Appointee until he was removed from the Assembly by the Kufuor Government in 2001.
That notwithstanding, Paa Willie from the party’s perspective, “remained politically active and relevant in the affairs of the party and fervently hoped to guide us into victory 2020.
But as the saying goes, God’s ways are never ours and sadly he departed before December 2020 elections”.
The Party hoped and prayed to win the 2020 elections to put a lasting smile on his face even in Heaven.
“From all of us down from the branches, wards, zones and Constituency, we wish Paa Willie a perfect rest till we meet again”.
He was 91 years of age.
