The Minister for Health, Kwaku Agyeman-Manu has indicated that the Ministry of Finance has given clearance for some 390 new Doctors to be engaged for their services by government.
The Minister who also doubles as the Member of Parliament for the Dormaa Central constituency, made this known in Parliament on Tuesday, February 11, 2020 during question time.
The Minister was giving answers to an urgent question filed by the Member of Parliament for Krachi West, Helen Adjoa Ntoso who wanted to know from the Minister when a medical superintendent will be posted to the Krachi West District Hospital.
According to the Minister, some room will be made for the Krachi West District Hospital to be considered in the posting of the 390 new doctors to be recruited following the clearance by the Ministry of Finance.
Ghana in its current state has one doctor attending to a number of over 8, 000 patients; an unsatisfactorily imbalanced ratio which falls below the 1 doctor to 5000 patient ratio per the recommendations of the Commonwealth and the 1 doctor to 1,320 patients per the recommendations of the World Health Organization.
