{"id":1405,"date":"2025-09-26T01:46:28","date_gmt":"2025-09-26T01:46:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/africanewsradio.com\/?p=1405"},"modified":"2025-09-26T01:46:29","modified_gmt":"2025-09-26T01:46:29","slug":"continental-dialogue-targets-barriers-facing-women-in-education-health-and-work","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/africanewsradio.com\/index.php\/continental-dialogue-targets-barriers-facing-women-in-education-health-and-work\/","title":{"rendered":"Continental Dialogue Targets Barriers Facing Women in Education, Health, and Work"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Accra, Ghana \u2013 September 25, 2025:<br>The Secretariat of the African Commission on Human and Peoples\u2019 Rights (ACHPR), in partnership with the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) through the GIZ-African Union AWARE Project and Ipas Africa Alliance, has commenced a two-day Continental Workshop in Accra to promote the socio-economic rights of women, including those working in the extractive industries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The workshop, running from September 25 to 26, 2025, brings together diverse stakeholders \u2013 including AU bodies, national human rights institutions (NHRIs), civil society organizations (CSOs), NGOs, academics, and private sector representatives from the extractive industries \u2013 to foster dialogue and develop strategies to advance women\u2019s empowerment across Africa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1020\" height=\"574\" src=\"https:\/\/africanewsradio.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/WhatsApp-Image-2025-09-25-at-12.43.40-PM.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1407\" srcset=\"https:\/\/africanewsradio.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/WhatsApp-Image-2025-09-25-at-12.43.40-PM.jpeg 1020w, https:\/\/africanewsradio.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/WhatsApp-Image-2025-09-25-at-12.43.40-PM-300x169.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/africanewsradio.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/WhatsApp-Image-2025-09-25-at-12.43.40-PM-768x432.jpeg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1020px) 100vw, 1020px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Delivering the opening statement on behalf of Ghana\u2019s Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Hon. Dr. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, the Director of the Department of Gender, Madam Faustina Acheampong, underscored the importance of the gathering in recognizing the contributions of women to national and continental development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She highlighted Ghana\u2019s progress in promoting gender equality, including the passage of the Affirmative Action (Gender Equity) Act, 2024 (Act 1121), which seeks to increase women\u2019s representation and participation in decision-making at all levels. She also noted the ongoing review of the National Gender Policy (2025\u20132034) and key economic empowerment interventions such as the Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP) Programme, Ghana School Feeding Programme, and the Microfinance and Small Loans Centre\u2019s support for women entrepreneurs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAs part of President John Dramani Mahama\u2019s resetting agenda, plans are underway to establish a Women\u2019s Development Bank that will expand financial inclusion, provide affordable credit and strengthen economic independence for women, particularly those in underserved areas,\u201d Madam Acheampong announced.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"767\" src=\"https:\/\/africanewsradio.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/WhatsApp-Image-2025-09-26-at-1.06.31-AM-1024x767.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1408\" srcset=\"https:\/\/africanewsradio.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/WhatsApp-Image-2025-09-26-at-1.06.31-AM-1024x767.jpeg 1024w, https:\/\/africanewsradio.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/WhatsApp-Image-2025-09-26-at-1.06.31-AM-300x225.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/africanewsradio.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/WhatsApp-Image-2025-09-26-at-1.06.31-AM-768x575.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/africanewsradio.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/WhatsApp-Image-2025-09-26-at-1.06.31-AM-45x35.jpeg 45w, https:\/\/africanewsradio.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/WhatsApp-Image-2025-09-26-at-1.06.31-AM.jpeg 1080w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The workshop aims to raise awareness of the socio-economic rights of all women \u2013 including women with disabilities, elderly women, and young women \u2013 with a particular focus on education, health, and social protection.
