National Security Coordinator, COP Osman Abdul-Razak says the information space is as much a part of the nation’s security perimeter as the borders, the sea and physical offices.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Addressing the PRINPAG Workshop on Responsive National Security Reporting, he said National Security must concern itself with responsible media reporting because a free and responsible press is itself an instrument of security.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“When the press exposes corruption, it protects the public purse more than any prosecution. When it holds power accountable, it gives a lawful outlet to frustration that would otherwise reduce to violence and reduce recruitment and propaganda of extremists,” he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He added that when the press reports truthfully in moments of tension, it becomes the nation’s steady hand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

COP Abdul-Razak noted that if Ghana’s democracy remains outstanding in a region of coups, it is in no small measure because at decisive moments the press has chosen responsibility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“We have not come to teach. We have come to learn from each other,” he told PRINPAG members, urging them to come up with a meaningful communicable way forward on how security and media should relate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
