The Former Member of Parliament for Ashaiman between 1993 and 2001 and now Ewefia (Ewe King) of Ashaiman in Greater Accra Region, Torgbui Exa Foli Aheto has called on Ewes to uphold the Ewe culture and tradition for generations to come.
According to him, “Anlo for that matter Ewe culture or tradition practices are very unique. They must be part of our daily activities as Ewewo, but of late it is getting lost to our youth”.
….”some Ewe hardly listen to Agbadza drumming, people even see it as an evil dance, meanwhile Agbadza dance or music contained a lot of inspirations that could make you active and solid to face any danger”.
Speaking as a chairman at a grand opening and food fair on 27th December, 2021 in Accra to officially lunch “Naketi Village”, Torgbui, privately known as Franklin Winfred Aheto mentioned that “every tribe is first of all identified by its spoken language, the food and how the people dress and the cloth they wear”.
Touching on food, Torgbui said, Ewe food are very nutritiously exceptional and some can be kept for days, weeks and months without going bad as he recommended to people to continue to eat food like all types of Abolo, all types of Dzenkple, all types of Akple, Yakayekee with all types of soups as well as all types of Dzowe, all types Kaklo and so forth and so on.
Naketi Village Ltd is a joint venture between AYC and AYC members that is conceived as a Niche market and social investment project for Aŋlɔ/Eʋe in which AYC is expected to retain 50% shares and membership taking up the remaining 50%.
Naketi Village is thus, conceptualised around the promotion of indigenous goods and services, cultural and culinary skills through the sale of Aŋlɔ and Eʋe Foods, artisanal crafts and artefacts, books, music, and promotion of Eʋe language and culture to prospective learners.
According to AYC “Naketi is not just a ‘business as usual’ type of project but a carefully thought through sociopreneurial programme (social intervention) aimed at shoring-up the socio-cultural capital of Aŋlɔ in particular and the Eʋe Commonwealth, in general, against increasing expression of negative ethnocentrism by tackling/solving some of our development challenges in innovative ways”.
In an interview with the President of Anlo Youth Council, Ken Kpedor, he feels very great because “a Legent of “Naketi De ka” has just been launched and I feel happy and so excited, A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step”.
