The Ghana Football Association has relieved Otto Addo of his duties as head coach of the Black Stars following a series of disappointing performances in recent international friendlies.
The decision comes in the wake of Ghana’s heavy 5–1 defeat to Austria and a 2–1 loss to Germany, results that stretched the team’s losing streak to four consecutive matches and raised growing concerns about the squad’s form and tactical direction.
Addo’s dismissal comes at a crucial time, as Ghana intensifies preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico. The Black Stars have been drawn into a challenging group alongside Panama, England and Croatia.
In a statement announcing the decision, the Association expressed appreciation to Addo for his service to the national team.
“The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has parted ways with the Head Coach of the senior men’s national team (Black Stars), Otto Addo, effective immediately. The Association wishes to thank Otto Addo sincerely for his contribution to the team and wishes him the best of luck in his future endeavours,” the statement said.
The Association further indicated that it will, in due course, communicate the new technical direction of the Black Stars as it looks to reposition the team ahead of upcoming competitions.
